Start your 4 Day Desert Tour from Marrakech by driving to Kasbah-Aitbenhadou, passing through Africa’s highest pass Tizi N’ Tichka (altitude 2260 m), while taking in the breathtaking views of the High Atlas and its Berber villages.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site Ait Benhaddou is next on our itinerary. This stunning example of southern Moroccan architecture, located on a hill overlooking the Ouarzazate River has been used to create backdrops for over 20 movies, including Lawrence of Arabia and Game of Thrones. We will pass Ouarzazat which is the Hollywood of Africa and the Valley of the Roses in southern Morocco. Then we will spend the night in a hotel at the Dades Gorges.
After breakfast at our hotel, we’ll leave the Dades Gorges to head towards Todra Gorges via Tinghir. From there, we’ll travel to Todra Gorges via the lush Todra Vale. There you’ll have a short hike on the narrow and high Todra rock cliffs. Continue on to Merzouga via the dramatic stony desert with palm trees of Erfoud, the capital of fossils, and Rissani. This market is the largest in the south. We arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon. There, we prepare and are accompanied for a 90-minute authentic camel trekking adventure. You will be able to see the sunset from the Erg Chebbi Dunes.
After rising early to watch the sunrise, you’ll ride camels to your hotel where you can shower and have breakfast. After leaving the magnificent Anti-Atlas Mountains, we will head towards Ouarzazate. We will pass through Alnif, famous for its Henna Orchards, and Agdz, a small settlement on the banks of Draa River. This village is also known as the longest Moroccan village. After crossing the Tizi N’Tinifift pass at 1460m, we will arrive in Ouarzazat. Overnight at a hotel
Ouarzazat is one of the most famous Berber cities in southern Morocco and is known as the Hollywood of Africa. The other half of the fourth day will be spent exploring the city. Start your day by visiting Atlas Studios. This is where many famous films were made, including …: Star Wars, Babel, and The Road back to ….. Next, you’ll visit the Kasbah Taourirt. Ouarzazate was once the vital residence of the Pacha in Marrakech. After lunch at Ouarzazat, we will travel through the High Atlas Mountains until we reach Telouet, the rich and fertile village. Here you can find salt mines. Then, we will return to Marrakech around 07:00 PM.
